Founded in February 1963, Tokyo Sound Production Co., Ltd. (TSP) is a major media production house. Tomoyuki Muroi, Chief Editor of the Video Center’s Editing Division, explains why they adopted VRi’s D-Stream LT and how it has transformed their professional workflow.

Reasons for Adoption

The primary driver was the transition to XDCAM delivery. The traditional tape-based workflow was inefficient, requiring tedious file-to-tape and tape-to-file conversions. TSP sought a device that could digitize files during the editing process while maintaining the familiar operability of a VTR.

Experience After Implementation

The implementation was smoother than expected, and operators are highly satisfied with its stable performance. While there were minor initial challenges—such as saving default settings and XML data integration—TSP has high expectations for these to be addressed in the June 2018 version update.

Impact on Efficiency and Speed

D-Stream LT has significantly accelerated the editing process.

Future Outlook

TSP views D-Stream LT as a solution that dissolves the barrier between linear and NLE editing. It has resolved the dilemma of choosing between the two formats. The team is eagerly awaiting the new version featuring OL dissolve functions and an NLE-like GUI to further enhance flexibility.
